January 2011 Lunch at Red Robin

Thanks to all who showed up, there were 9 of us in attendance including Frindle's wife. She was a neat person and here's hoping she can make some more events. The lunch at the Quakertown Red Robin was really good with excellent service. We had time to discuss the schedule for the year which remains tentative pending rally dates for this year from the CSBA rally organizers. Some things have changed but the schedule isn't much different from last year. We will be including one social event per quarter as per request from the chapter members. It will be either a stand alone event or an extended stop during a ride for a chance to hang out and connect with folk. Our winter event is a trip to the IMS in NYC on 1/22. We'll do a lunch in February in Philly and a lunch in March in Delaware county. Then in April we'll start our first Saturday of the month rides, there will be some changes to each ride with a new ride coming in October. April 16th we'll go to a bike blessing and May 14th or 15th we will attend a race to help out the CSBR (Christian Sportbike Racing Team) at New Jersey Motorsports Park. I don't want to say much more until I can nail down certain dates. I hope every one has a great new year and I hope to see you all soon.

December 2010 Ride - "Berks County Blitz"

It was a cold Saturday, so breakfast was pushed back to 9:30AM with the ride following around 10:25 AM. I wanted to thank Nelson, Jo, Bryce, Sandy and Mike for driving in just to have breakfast with once more for this year. You all are the best!! Rick J, Carl, Robert, Ted, and myself went on the Berks county Blitz. It ended up being about 115 miles of riding. There were no get-offs, spills, or crashes; and only 1 U-turn. We saw a lot of farmland and some nice country but some riders weren't crazy about that short stretch of stone road. We encountered a large number of pick up trucks which seemed strange until we found out it was hunting season. The sun stayed behind the clouds most of the day, but we made the best of it. Road debris was present, but road temperatures played a larger part with traction than debris. In the end, it was a good ride and some good fun. Thanks all for coming and I look forward to seeing you soon! I will post up the winter lunch dates soon and ask for suggestions then. Take care all.

November 2010 Ride - "Jump into Jersey"

I'm very sorry this is so late. These last couple of weeks have been hard. I've been working a lot of overtime and trying to keep up with my college homework. In addition, a large project at my house has been consuming a lot of my time, but I must get as much of it done as I can before the snow comes. Anyway, here is November's ride report.

The weather was cold in the morning which kept most folk at home. I had a few cancellations due to work, oversleeping, and bike malfunctions. At breakfast, we had eight people in attendance with five riding. We left the Starlite around 9:30, which was kind of late, but I wanted to make sure we didn't leave any latecomers behind. We slabbed out Rt. 22 to Easton then went north into New Jersey, stopping for fuel in Belvidere. After our fuel stop we started our ride. Thanks to a helpful resident of the Garden State I had a kickin' route with good roads and nice scenery. We had one "get off" where a rider saw me slow down, then swerved and went into the grass. Here his bike went down bending the brake pedal, we fixed that at lunch.

October 2010 Ride and Suspension Clinic

The morning of the ride was chilly, 40 degrees outside, when I left my house. You can tell it's Autumn in Pennsylvania! I met up for breakfast with about four other riders. As we kept eating, they kept coming in. At the start of the ride, we had 20 riders. We had our riders meeting and a prayer for safety and off we went. Our 2nd turn brought us to our first twisty road and we occasionally hit some spots where water was crossing the road. The wierd thing was we did encounter some washout or gravel, but nowhere near what I expected. Two turns before our first stop sign on this road we went through a bit of water, then a right hander, up a rise, over the rise then a quick left hander. On this left hand turn, our first rider in question (about 15 riders back) had his front wheel come off the ground and his right wheel get light in the suspension. As his front wheel came down his bike started to shake, then as he got that under control his rear wheel started to oscillate. He attempted to stop and bring it under control, but he was thrown from the bike. He slid and impacted a dirt bank and his bike went up the bank into the woods. The next rider had similar effects on his bike and saw the rider slide in one direction and that bike slide in another direction. He said he really couldn't swerve in either direction, so he scrubbed off as much speed as he could. He then hit the dirt bank and was ejected off his bike onto the bank.

September 2010 Ride - "Montgomery/Bucks County Run"

Here's the ride report. We started out with a good breakfast with a lot of folk coming from all over to eat and ride with us. We broke into two groups after the rider's meeting, a lead and a chase group. Although just as I was going to tell folk to gear up, I hear a voice say, "Where should I go?" I look around and here is a stocky guy about 5'5" with a big cup of soda in t-shirt, sneakers, and short. I'm thinking, "dude didn't read the rules of the ride, 'cause he ain't in gear". So I ask him, "what are you riding?" He point to a tractor trailer and tell us it can do 125, he can keep up! Here's where we all lost it! All I could say was, "ya can't make this stuff up!" The truck driver wished us a safe ride and went on his way. We then left on our way after a prayer for safety and the chase group missed the first two turns. I realized that we needed to keep closer, so I didn't leave with the lead group until I saw Pohlcat show up with the chase group. It made the ride take a bit longer, but we didn't lose any more time with missed turns. Thanks to Pohlcat for leading the chase group!!! We had to wait on folk who needed to get fuel in the parking lot of a furniture store and the owner came out yelling at us to get lost, he had a business to run. Not cool at all. So, we went down the street and waited on the shoulder for the three riders to return.

August 2010 Ride - "Shamokin Screamer"

Hey All,

The August 7th running of the Shamokin Screamer went off well. The weather was great and the attendance the same. We had 20 riders in two groups, one slow to medium and one medium to fast. We had two spills, one rider came around in a corner to unexpected traffic and ditched into a field. The other one had a front wheel tuck into a corner and low sided. Except for some scratches on the bike, a broken mirror, and a cut on the hand where a glove wore through, all were okay. We had a good lunch at May's Family Restaurant in Berwick followed by a reading from Mark 4:1-20
