January 2013 CSBA Lunch

It was great to see everyone on Saturday with 8 folks coming out to eat and four riding. The food was good at the 1760 pub and grill. Let's see if I can remember who was there: me, rktec, jlasure and V, J-Mac, kpilot, ANLR 21, andyr, frindle, and johnric42. We spoke about plans for the future and things we'd like to do. One of them being a new route in our south Pa Screamer. We also spoke about new events planned and fun over the holidays.

December 2012 Berks County Blitz

I'm sorry this post is late, my son's birthday was last week and we had three parties for him. Now that it's over, let's get back to business. This last ride of the season had a light turnout due to cold and tight schedules plus rain the day before. Three of us came to breakfast and three showed up to ride. So, six came out all together and I would show you some pictures but I forgot my camera at home. Of the three that came to ride, one decided not to ride due to the clouds and his heart wasn't in it. So another rider and myself headed out on the ride. We got about an hour into the ride when we came across a bridge that was out. I hadn't reconned the ride and assumed someone else did, silly me. We turned left and came upon another bridge out. After this the rider I was with had some mechanical problems with his bike, but a push and a kick start and we were back on our way. We rode for only about an hour and a half since the other rider needed to be somewhere. I rode more of the route solo and then headed home, arriving before noon. Our next event will be a lunch on January the 5th, 2013. I'll post up more before the New Year. I hope you and your family have a nice holiday.

November 2012 Ride to the Poconos

I am sorry this ride report is late, I just finished an internship for college and that has been eating up most of my time. Now that it is done I can catch up on some stuff, like this ride report.

The morning of the ride started out cold, but not terribly cold. I think it was around 36 degrees in the morning. There were about 9 people that came out for breakfast and 7 of us that rode. One person left an hour into the ride due to work, but I was glad he came out to ride. To continue I think I need to take a step back. First of all, this ride was called the Jump into Jersey because the planned and reconned route went through North and West New Jersey. However Hurricane Sandy came through and kind of threw a monkey wrench into our plans. After conferring with other chapter members, the preference was to cancel the Jersey ride and ride into the Poconos mountains instead. We made this decision about 3 days before the ride, so I had to come up with an alternate route, and fast! Now back to Saturday. It was good to see old friends, and meet some new ones too. R/T brought out his other "new to him" bike for us to check out. Very Nice!

October 2012 - Dauphin County Screamer Ride

This ride was the one that almost wasn't. Many were wary of the possibility of rain in the forecast and were considering bailing out. I resolved to go despite the gloom in the forecast. I think many folk agreed with me when they awoke with a clear sky greeting them. We only had about 8 signed up to go, but once the riders meeting started I was looking at 15 riders. We even had leon come along for a short bit. Once the ride began the skies did cloud up and become overcast. By 10:30am in Lebanon county it was misting and did so for 10 minutes. But after that, it was cool air and breeze with the sun peeking out a few times. I was leading the front group and we stopped on a side road to send a message to the chase group to avoid a certain stretch of road and come straight to the lunch stop. As I was speaking to one rider, half of the group disappeared into the bushes. Five minutes later we got back on the road. We had one u-turn but no crashes. The chase group had two different crashes with one going to the hospital. I'm told it was a shoulder injury, so let's pray he will be well soon. We had lunch at Lenny's Denny's in Halifax and they had very good food.

September 2012 Bucks-Mont Run

Well, this is WAY late, so apologies here. I started an internship @ my company because I am trying to get a Bachelor's Degree and it is causing me to work an additional 30 hours per week. I will be done early November and it can't come soon enough. So, on to the ride report.

We gathered up at the Starlite with 14 riders and two that left due to insufficient gear. Breakfast was nice, especially with a chapter member who hasn't been with us for over a year. It was good to see him, who shall remain nameless for security reasons, and hopefully we can see him again soon. It was also nice to have Jim join us on the ride for the first time. We broke into two groups, lead and chase, then slabbed east for about 30 miles, almost to the New Jersey border. We then headed west and began our three county trek across Southeastern Pennsylvania. Partway through the ride I missed a turn and met up with the chase group. Thankfully no collisions occurred and we all went on our way, although the second group had three riders leave. As we continued on a blind left hand turn psyched me out and I grabbed brake went into the grass.

August 2012 Shamokin Screamer Ride

I know I'm late, sorry about that, but here is the ride report.

I left my house in the morning around 6:20am and not more than 1/4 mile on my way and there are drops on my helmet. Was it raining? Nope, just a lot of condensation from all the humidity in the air. I spent the next half hour wiping my visor to see through the "drops". I rode up to the Starlite, got some gas, and then greeted those who came up for breakfast. It was cool to see some old regulars, like R/T, I-Jo & Mike, andyr, jlasure, frindle and Seven who came with a crew. It was also nice to meet some new faces, like Flash, Chris, Miguel, Rebekah & Jim. Thanks all for coming and hanging out with us at breakfast. After having a good meal with some good sharing and catching up with folk, we went out to ride. I led the riders meeting, assigned riders to the groups, 2 being at medium pace and 2 being slower. We had a bit over 20 riders, and with four groups it was 5-6 per group, a perfect fit. I want to thank jlasure, andyr, and seven for leading groups, you guys were awesome. We had no crashes and only one missed turn by part of one group. God is good!
