July 2012 Dive Into Delaware Ride

This ride report is way late, apologies to all involved. Work and home have been keeping me hopping, but I've finally have a free minute, so here we go. The weather forecast for this ride was to be one of the hottest days of the year. Before this forecast I had about 16 riders saying they were coming. After the forecast there were 5 riders with 5 more coming for breakfast. Some folks were ill and others had work, but of the ten that bailed, I'm not sure. 6 months from now I wonder if they will be the one's saying it's to cold to ride? Okay, enough joking around...

The day started pretty mild but got hot as it went. After lunch, it was hot and some of us started to fade. Either way, it was a good ride. There were no crashes and no entanglements with law enforcement. Breakfast was a good time to catch up on work/family/bike issues and who took a spill at the track. We all had fun over sharing stories, pictures, videos and Splenda packets. The ride down to lunch was good but traffic was a constant interruption. I'd say we were in traffic 70% of the time for the whole day of this ride. When we weren't we did have fun riding in a big way.

June 2012 Pocono Screamer Ride

The day began cooler and dryer than I had expected. I had gotten a late start to get to the diner and on the way I noticed that the cool weather caused my tire PSI to be 2 lbs. less than I like. I went to the gas station next to the diner, put some air in but it actually took air out. I then returned and got more air in both tires. I got to the diner 15 minutes late, not a good start. I finally got to meet CharlesPa, our new north east Pennsylvania chapter member. He's one of the cool folk that I hope to see more of at our rides. As breakfast went on old friends and new showed up, ready to ride. We were short three ride leaders, so we only had two groups, and that made things tricky. We had about 9 riders in each group and that is about double the amount I prefer. All things considered though, the ride went well because a lot of folk stepped up and helped and I am grateful for it. Thanks to jlasure for leading the other group and frindle and k-pilot for riding trail. Thanks to others for blocking, posting up videos, and helping out. You all are the best.

May 2012 Blue Mountain Run

Things did go well today, no crashes and no breakdowns, sort of. :? We all met up for breakfast and had a good time. We met up with some new faces and some old friends that I haven't seen in a while (moorepower and nattydrez!). I came back out from breakfast and it seemed the maintenance glitches were coming upon us with a vengence. One rider needed air for their tires, one guys' bike refused to start across the street, another rider was missing a bolt in his kickstand, and I had to make group adjustments. To explain further; last year it was always chaotic to have riders select groups by pace. We would have some select groups by ego and not ability and crashes would result. Other times, we would have 11 in one group and 3 in another with not a lot of difference in pace. So, this year since I know a bunch of our riders, I have been trying to place them in equal groups in a pace they would like. This our second time doing it and it's been working pretty well. This month was a challenge because folk that said they were coming didn't come, we had maintenance issues, and others show up that didn't say they were coming. So, I had to regroup folk while troubleshooting some of the maintenance issues as well. Fun times.

April 2012 "Southern Pennsylvania Screamer" Ride

I'm sorry for this being late, I have had a busy week. This month's ride started with a cold morning and temperatures close to freezing in some areas. However, the faithful still came out, some later than others. We had a good turn out, with about 28 riders attending the ride, and a few who just came for breakfast. It was good to see many people who we haven't seen in months. Thankfully, I had four other skilled riders who were willing to lead a group, plus me, made 5 groups of 5-6 riders each. So, that was a huge improvement from years ago when it was just me and big convoy of people. Thanks to Cowboy6, andyr, jlasure, and rktec for leading groups; you guys did very well. I learned from this ride what I am NOT good at doing. One thing I am not good at doing is making up route sheets, rktec's sheet seemed to be the one most people favored. We did have a few groups get sidetracked due to my directions, sorry all. We started the ride after breakfast with a safety meeting and then I assigned riders that I knew into groups according to pace that I thought they would like. The folks who I didn't know I put in my group. That seemed to work pretty well and it eliminated a lot of confusion at the start of the ride.

March 2012 Lunch at Geno's

Today's lunch was a hoot! As always God continues to bless me with some cool chapter members and friends. We met at Geno's steaks down in South Philadelphia, one of the early makers of a local Pennsylvania delicacy called a cheese steak. It's located in a crowded neighborhood on a triangle of a lot, in a neighborhood that has a lot of Italian heritage. For Frindle and I it was a challenge to get there, we encountered traffic and numerous traffic lights, but we made it there safe. Once there we met up with johnric42 and his friend Steve, Seven and his friend, Michelle, Ron w, jlasure and Vivienne. We had a good lunch, but we had a great time hanging out and catching up. We do have some cool things coming up, thanks to jlasure, so stay posted. Once we finished lunch we had to "answer the call of nature" so we stopped at a local Philadelphia fire station who gladly let us use their bathroom. This is an acceptable practice; in Philadelphia, all fire stations are public buildings. While we were there we chatted with the firefighters who were all genuinely friendly. We were sad to hear their engine was disbanded due to "budget cuts". Quite sad that politicians have money for their pet projects but not for protecting their citizens, but I digress. After leaving the fire station, a few of us topped of with gas and then left the city by way of the river drives. All of us dodged and weaved through traffic following that "hoodlum" johnric42. We parted ways near 309 and the rest of us headed north. Along the way we picked up a Pennsylvania State trooper as a follower, but no tickets were issued. Once we entered Montgomeryville we encountered a great deal of traffic, so we went through a shopping center then detoured through Bucks County back up to Sellersville. The rest of the guys went north on 309 and I went west. This was big fun, I can't wait until next month!

February 2012 Lunch at The Whip Tavern

We did have a fun time at the Whip Tavern, an "authentic" English pub near West Chester. I say "authentic" because I've never been to England, so there. The only downside was we had to wait an hour to get a table because a rugby game was on. No, I'm not joking, I'm serious. We went in and watched a bit of the game, quite confusing and not much like American Football. The food was very good, the service was also very good, and the company, excellent. As always, we had big fun, as you'll see in the pics below. Our next lunch is at Geno's Steaks in South Philly on Passyunk avenue on March 3rd.
