CSBA Breaking Bread - Pounding the Poconos November 3, 2018

intro

We give thanks to God for His wisdom and His Blessings….

Rain, rain go away – unfortunately, not today it seems! That’s been the case for us the last few years for the first Saturday’s of the month, and this Saturday was no exception. The northeast corridor was bombarded with tornado winds and heavy rains starting earlier on Friday (11/2), continuing into this morning. What was left was a wet mess up through about mid-day. Because of weather and riding conditions, our day of riding was canceled – but that doesn’t mean a few of us don’t meet for breakfast!

Those that were available (Mark, Cory, Russ [Rusty Bucket], Mike and his daughter - Nicolette) came out, broke bread, exchanged stories and just enjoyed a nice breakfast together. I shared my message (rebuilding relationships) before we parted ways to enjoy the remainder of our Saturday. Any opportunity to enjoy our friends is time well spent for me.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get to ride today. As I always do - I’d like to take this moment to thank everyone for your continued participation, involvement and giving attitudes on our rides and events. Whether you come out to ride or just break bread with us – we welcome your participation. These rides / events are designed for you, our riders, to enjoy the roads and have fellowship with us. We’re promoting a fellowship and an environment in which we want you to come and enjoy your love with others that share your passion of riding.

For more great pictures and information on today’s event, visit the facebook event page for our “Pounding the Poconos” Ride here: [ www.facebook.com/events/2204035233187201/] or visit us on our website at www.pacsba.org.

On behalf of the CSBA and our chapter, we give thanks to you for coming and enjoying the day with us. See you again soon and don’t hesitate to reach out to me (or any CSBA member) with any and all questions you may have about our rides or the CSBA Organization. Blessings to you all!

Bux/Mont Rattlesnake Run October 6, 2018

intro

When we selected the Bux/Mont Rattlesnake Run for the October CSBA ride this year, we were hoping that it might turn out to be a scenic “fall foliage” ride. It was also equally possible that it could have turned into a “wet leaves” ride, which would have been a bit dangerous on many of the roads on the route.

As it turned out, the warm and rainy September meant that the only significant foliage color was still green and, thankfully, not many leaves had fallen to cover the roads. However, just like nearly every other weekend this year, the roads were wet to start the morning. A heavy mist – that wasn’t even forecast! – covered the entire first half of the morning route, slowing the pace considerably, and reducing visibility for what should have been a scenic ride.

Promptly at 9:15, CSBA President Mark Hamm gathered us for our pre-ride meeting and gave us our ride instructions for the day. These included the Safety Tip of the Day: animal carcasses. For whatever reason, small animal roadkill has been everywhere in the area, and the nature of the roads on this route made it a genuine cause for care while riding.

We began the ride with about 18 riders, split equally into 2 groups. This route is the most technical and “back road” ride of the year. With almost no time spent on state highways and lots and lots of turns and intersections, there are not many opportunities for big speed differences between the groups. The Chase group, though, did have a few riders with less experience – especially on wet roads – so we took a more careful approach to all the twists and turns than we otherwise might have, in order to ensure that we all stayed together and arrived safely at the lunch stop.

After about the midway point of the morning, the mist finally went away and the roads were mostly dry, so we were able to pick up the pace a little bit and enjoy the route a little more.

Ride Report - Shamokin Screamer Reloaded September 01, 2018

september ride report web intro

With the arrival of nearly every weekend throughout the Spring and Summer of 2018, there has also been a forecast for rain.  And, for the past two summers, nearly every CSBA scheduled ride has included a forecast for rain. So, as the Labor Day weekend approached, we in the Eastern PA Chapter anxiously monitored all the weather forecasters and their predictions for rain, in order to attempt to retry the Shamokin Screamer ride (already postponed because of rain).

So, naturally, the morning would be wet, but we determined that it was at least worth meeting up for breakfast and assessing the conditions before giving up on the day.  Those who traveled from the South were treated to a few soaking rain showers on their way to the Star Lite Diner, while those who live in the Allentown area endured a couple hours of soaking rain before the scheduled meet up. But, all the radar images showed that no significant rainfall had come through the area of the route, so we believed it was worth venturing out.

Eighteen riders showed up and, due to the combined issues of the weather and the lack of leaders familiar with the route, we all followed along as one “Relaxed Pace” group.  The roads were wet, with occasional mist and light showers in the air, so caution was paramount.  Thankfully, the temperature was agreeable; not too hot and humid, nor too cold and damp.  Along the way, we took a brief pause to allow for a certain pink GSXR-600 to catch up to the group.  Traveling at this reduced pace, one could have taken the time to appreciate the side benefit of rain nearly every day for an entire summer:  some very lush and green hills and valleys, to go with the swollen creeks and rivers.

Ride Report – Pocono Screamer Reloaded July 7, 2018

july report intro

We give thanks to God for his wisdom and the ability to serve and be appreciated….

We finally had a day (weather-wise) that was worthy and we made sure to maximize it – the following is the accounts of our ongoing saga of Team CSBA…

Where do I start? The weather was heaven sent – we could not have asked for a better day weather-wise. Everyone was excited to ride – and we had riders. Crews came from as far north as Conn., east from Long Island/NY and south from just north of Philly.

We all arrived early so about half the group settled in for some breakfast –

It was a very special day as we made some new friends while introducing some old ones. One in particular, has been a member for nearly a year and it was his first time joining. We’re so happy to have Sheldon finally in our ranks. Another new rider to our group was CJ – he had never ridden with us before, so we made sure to give him a proper welcome. Sydney came down with his NY crew and also brought to us the famous “MzKelz (Kelly)” – she’s been nearly to every state on 2s and I believed she just returned from Alaska. I couldn’t help but admire her bike – the woman surely has good taste! George didn’t disappoint – riding down from Conn, and Nick and Kount Latin Riderz joined us from Long Island. August (aka Auggy) was Cory’s friend and he came to hang with us too. Along with the usual suspects (all identified in the above picture), it was to be a great day! Oh – I should also mention that Russ brought 2 new friends and one of them had less than 40 hours seat time as a rider – she (Lindsay) did amazing. (Tip: to all those riders out there that think you’re not experienced enough to ride with us – we have all groups and will take good care of you – just come and experience our rides)

Ride Report – Blue Mountain Run May 5, 2018

intro small

We give thanks to God for His wisdom and His Blessings….

What a handsome group of men! I’m proud to carve up the roads with these gents since these fellas represent a subset of our A-group riders. From as far north as Conn, as far east as Long Island, NY and as far south as the Philly suburbs – these 12 gentlemen came to ride and enjoy the roads, and that we did.

This was our first true ride this year since our April ride was rained out (our normal lately it seems). I was also ill prepared since I didn’t get a chance to recon the route – and was also trying out a new app (which was a FAIL for me). We had our set of challenges starting off – but luckily Matko had a copy of his Garmin maps/route with him, which kept us on the straight and narrow. We ran around in circles a little initially, but we regrouped and finally got it together. I must say, Matko and his new Ducati were the star of the show this day, blazing the path in the F1 group. I had to break a sweat to keep up with him. I’m thinking it’s time to pass the lead position over to him – Well Done Sir!

For all that know, this ride usually loses attendance in leu of the famous SDTC Cheese Steak Run Ride that brings crews from all around the tri-state area to converge on Philly for the day. Alan Lane (Aka Black Moses) from SportBikeInc.com Magazine does a wonderful job in organizing those large rides, sometimes in upwards of nearly 1,000 riders. We applaud Alan for his rides and organization – but our rides are only and always about hitting the back roads and enjoying the twisties at “pace”. That’s what we do – so we give thanks to our 12 gentlemen that chose to enjoy a day of riding with us. As always, the company was outstanding! I’m also happy to report – no incidents or downed riders!
