Hey All,

The August 7th running of the Shamokin Screamer went off well. The weather was great and the attendance the same. We had 20 riders in two groups, one slow to medium and one medium to fast. We had two spills, one rider came around in a corner to unexpected traffic and ditched into a field. The other one had a front wheel tuck into a corner and low sided. Except for some scratches on the bike, a broken mirror, and a cut on the hand where a glove wore through, all were okay. We had a good lunch at May's Family Restaurant in Berwick followed by a reading from Mark 4:1-20

Scripture Readings for August 2010

The Parable of the Sower
Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water's edge.
He taught them many things by parables, and in his teaching said:
"Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed.
As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.
Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow.
But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.
Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain.
Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, multiplying thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times."
Then Jesus said, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables.
He told them, "The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables
so that, " 'they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!'[a]"
Then Jesus said to them, "Don't you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable?
The farmer sows the word.
Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them.
Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy.
But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.
Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word;
but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.
Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown."

In this passage it talks about a farmer "sowing" seed, what the farmer would do was cast it out of a slinged sack across his field as he walked. He would have a central path and two fields on each side of it. So the Scripture talks about four soils; the path, the rocky soil, the soil among thorns, and the good soil. The hardened soil or the path is the unresponsive heart that doesn't respond to the Word of God put into their lives. The rocky soil is the impulsive heart, they go from one thing to another and never gain root. The Word of God is just another thing to them. The soil among thorns is the preoccupied heart, they place other things above God and He has low priority in their life. The good soil is the responsive heart, they not only hear God's Word, but accept it and pattern their life to it. They begin to produce a result for God, many times more than what was "sown". As verse 9 above says, "Let him who has ears hear....". In other words, listen and heed these words. Consider carefully what heart do you have? Do you heed God's word? Does God have a place in your life? Thanks to all who came and made this ride a success! We all had a good time and I hope to see everyone next month. Have a good week!
