Hey Folks,

I just wanted to thank Steve, Andyr, and John that came out to help with this ride which included twenty bikes. We had one person go down and went to the hospital where he was treated and released. Thank God! Besides that the ride went smoothly and I only had one U-turn, I'm improving! We did over 300 miles on great roads with beautiful scenery. I forgot to bring my camera, so I will have to post a link later to view others pics. Sorry. Despite the crash, a good time was had by all.

Scripture Readings for August 2009

The Scripture for this ride was James 1:19-27

Listening and Doing 19My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. 21Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror 24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.

26If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. 27Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

This passage illustrates the character of God, His devotion to the poor, the fallen, the "least". He longs to have relationship with all men and to bless them. He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for our sins and provide a way for us to have relationship with God. All of this, requires us first, to learn; next, to listen, and finally to obey what God's law is. This law is not designed or intended to restrict or harm us, but to keep us from harm or bondage. It's kind of like playing a game of football with no boundary lines, how do you know who's in or out or when they make a touch down? Life is the same way, God's law gives us boundaries to live that are large. Some folk interpret Scripture to make it austere and strict, but God is not that way. He is not a God of bondage but a God of Freedom. May God bless and protect you all this month. See you in September.
