Our Friend John Lasure Jr. - CSBA President Featured

John Lasure JrFor the past decade, John Lasure Jr. has been the President of the Eastern PA Chapter of the CSBA and for the last several years the President of the National Chapter of the CSBA.  Like many of us his roots with the organization began by simply attending some of the CSBA rides, but his strong foundation in Christianity and the love of motorcycles inspired him to become the man he is today.  His commitment to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ boosted his desire to do more for the organization and before long he was promoted to the roles that he currently maintains.

John is one of the most selfless people you could meet, concerned about others well being and their prosperity more than his own.  He voluntary opens his home to host men’s bible studies, consoles members when they are ill or experiencing some type of misfortune, and shows an unwavering commitment to oversee the success of the Eastern PA Chapter of the CSBA to share the positive experiences that he has received while being a part of the organization.

In total, John has been with the organization for more than 17 years and he has shown his true devotion to the organization and the Lord during that time. His upbeat personality, fantastic communication skills, and networking abilities have allowed the Eastern PA Chapter to expand its reach that has taken the Lord's word to less common venues. He began by spreading the word at weekend bike gatherings and shows at motorcycle dealerships. Then in the spring of 2013 he started the "CSBA Day at the Races" track day events, which grew rapidly and led to additional membership within the CSBA, as well as some sponsorship from local, regional, and national companies. It also attracted the attention of the publishers at Sport Bikes, Inc. Magazine who conducted an interview with him about the CSBA and the CSBA Day @ the Races program. The article titled "Know Your Role: A Club of another Cloth" was featured in the December 2014 issue of the magazine and may be read online through the following link: Click to View Article.

As always, we give thanks for our CSBA Friends and Family for coming out and enjoying an afternoon with us.

Russ Buggé Inducted as the Recon & Route Coordinator

russ intro

Members and guests of the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Christian Sport Bike Association met for breakfast on Saturday July 6, 2019. At the breakfast, a motion was made by Chapter President John Lasure Jr., seconded by Chapter Vice President Chris Roddick to promote Russ Buggé, also known to many as “Rusty Bucket”, to the position of Recon & Route Coordinator for the Eastern PA Chapter of the CSBA. The motion carried and Russ has been immediately inducted into his new position.

Russ joined our chapter in 2015 while we were on one of our monthly rides. He had passed us riding in the opposite direction, but looking for a group to ride with he decided to quickly turn around to catch up to us. He joined the rear of the group and followed us to the next stop where he then introduced himself and we welcomed him. He explained that after a multi-year hiatus, he had just gotten back into riding, but he was having no success in finding a group that suited his interests. He knew he was a back-road rider with a sport bike, but he didn’t know any other like minded riders. It also turned out that he is a Christian and on that Saturday in 2015, not only did he find a group to ride with that shared his riding interests, but he also got the added bonus that we were a Christian group with a message to share, which is just what he had been looking for.

He continued to ride with us throughout the remainder of 2015 and at the beginning of the next season he expressed interest in learning our ride routes. Of course we obliged and he began to faithfully recon each monthly ride route prior to ride day to ensure that the routes were clear of detours or any other unexpected issues. In addition to that, he voluntarily began to assist us at our rides by leading a group of riders every month and in the absence of senior leadership has shown his capability to take charge by conducting the rider meetings. He places a strong emphasis on rider safety, honors our chapter qualities and values, and has demonstrated his commitment to the CSBA mission.

February 4, 2017 CSBA Breaking Bread Luncheon

february intro

The February meeting for the CSBA began with minimal fanfare as Rusty arrived at The Cheesecake Factory shortly before 11AM to find no one he recognized. Soon after, he was joined by Derek "Tiny" Snead and we began discussing last-minute cancellation messages and catching up on the last few months.  We were soon joined by Rick Johnson, who was followed by Allan and Nancy Curtis. We finally decided it was about time to ask for a table and we were then joined by the man we were all eager to see:  Andy Rohrer.

After we were seated, we invited Andy to share his dramatic story of the last year and a half. He recounted for us the details of his battle with a rare strain of Hepatitis C and his need for a liver transplant several years ago. Two years ago he entered an experimental treatment to remove the disease completely.  In the process of this treatment, however, a device from a previous hernia surgery opened a micro-tear in his colon, so as his body was becoming septic, he believed the symptoms were side effects from the drug treatment. By the time the real problem was discovered, his kidneys and borrowed liver had shut down and he was, again, in need of a transplant. However, the doctors determined that he was too weak to endure the surgery to repair his colon and, even more so, the transplant surgeries.

Andy's Story - The Love and Gratitude for Organ Donation

andy intro

Dear Lord God please bless all of these followers of you, that are here today and if it's not too much to ask please shine your light on all that seek you, to illuminate the path so that they may find the way to your salvation.

I have a personal story to relate to you. This same time of year 12 years ago, I was at my brothers hunting cabin. Our yearly brotherly gathering. I woke up in the morning and didn't feel well. I didn't know but I was in the middle of bleeding out internally from a disease (Hep C) that I didn't know I had. Bear in mind I was an active happy family man. I obviously ended up in the hospital and the doctors were able to stop the bleeding and save my life. Turns out I was a very sick man with advanced liver disease and in need of a liver transplant. God saw that a complete stranger and his family would step forward and donate his liver to me since he didn't need it in God's heaven.

Fast forward to this year, my transplanted liver was struggling due to my disease and some other medical issues (hernia operation from earlier failed).

January 7, 2017 CSBA Breaking Bread Luncheon

january intro1On Saturday January 7, 2017 we held our first event of the new year.   This year we changed venues for our January Breaking Bread Luncheon and held it at Red Robin Gourmet Burger's in Quakertown, PA.

Those who followed us last year know that several of our events scheduled throughout 2016 were plagued with many weather challenges and for this first event of 2017 we were again faced with the same outcome.   As many woke up to find snow falling with some roadways becoming too slippery for travel, we were faced with the decision of whether or not to cancel the event. Fortunately for the Lehigh Valley the impacts were minor and we were able to hold our first luncheon with 13 members and guests in attendance.   Meanwhile, a few of our guests from southern areas were unable to attend as a result of more severe impacts from the winter storm in their perspective areas.

Starting at 1 p.m. people began trickling in and most were there by 1:15 p.m.   In attendance were John L, Nelson, Lisa, Erin, Rusty, Rick, Jim, Zori, Ana, Becky, Brianna, Chris, and John D. As we all arrived, John L. distributed some wall calendars, magnets, and other CSBA goodies to everyone. We greeted one another, gave our blessings for the New Year and then sat down to recollect on the past year's experiences.
