Ride Report - Shamokin Screamer Reloaded September 01, 2018

september ride report web intro

With the arrival of nearly every weekend throughout the Spring and Summer of 2018, there has also been a forecast for rain.  And, for the past two summers, nearly every CSBA scheduled ride has included a forecast for rain. So, as the Labor Day weekend approached, we in the Eastern PA Chapter anxiously monitored all the weather forecasters and their predictions for rain, in order to attempt to retry the Shamokin Screamer ride (already postponed because of rain).

So, naturally, the morning would be wet, but we determined that it was at least worth meeting up for breakfast and assessing the conditions before giving up on the day.  Those who traveled from the South were treated to a few soaking rain showers on their way to the Star Lite Diner, while those who live in the Allentown area endured a couple hours of soaking rain before the scheduled meet up. But, all the radar images showed that no significant rainfall had come through the area of the route, so we believed it was worth venturing out.

Eighteen riders showed up and, due to the combined issues of the weather and the lack of leaders familiar with the route, we all followed along as one “Relaxed Pace” group.  The roads were wet, with occasional mist and light showers in the air, so caution was paramount.  Thankfully, the temperature was agreeable; not too hot and humid, nor too cold and damp.  Along the way, we took a brief pause to allow for a certain pink GSXR-600 to catch up to the group.  Traveling at this reduced pace, one could have taken the time to appreciate the side benefit of rain nearly every day for an entire summer:  some very lush and green hills and valleys, to go with the swollen creeks and rivers.

Ride Report – Pocono Screamer Reloaded July 7, 2018

july report intro

We give thanks to God for his wisdom and the ability to serve and be appreciated….

We finally had a day (weather-wise) that was worthy and we made sure to maximize it – the following is the accounts of our ongoing saga of Team CSBA…

Where do I start? The weather was heaven sent – we could not have asked for a better day weather-wise. Everyone was excited to ride – and we had riders. Crews came from as far north as Conn., east from Long Island/NY and south from just north of Philly.

We all arrived early so about half the group settled in for some breakfast –

It was a very special day as we made some new friends while introducing some old ones. One in particular, has been a member for nearly a year and it was his first time joining. We’re so happy to have Sheldon finally in our ranks. Another new rider to our group was CJ – he had never ridden with us before, so we made sure to give him a proper welcome. Sydney came down with his NY crew and also brought to us the famous “MzKelz (Kelly)” – she’s been nearly to every state on 2s and I believed she just returned from Alaska. I couldn’t help but admire her bike – the woman surely has good taste! George didn’t disappoint – riding down from Conn, and Nick and Kount Latin Riderz joined us from Long Island. August (aka Auggy) was Cory’s friend and he came to hang with us too. Along with the usual suspects (all identified in the above picture), it was to be a great day! Oh – I should also mention that Russ brought 2 new friends and one of them had less than 40 hours seat time as a rider – she (Lindsay) did amazing. (Tip: to all those riders out there that think you’re not experienced enough to ride with us – we have all groups and will take good care of you – just come and experience our rides)

Ride Report – Blue Mountain Run May 5, 2018

intro small

We give thanks to God for His wisdom and His Blessings….

What a handsome group of men! I’m proud to carve up the roads with these gents since these fellas represent a subset of our A-group riders. From as far north as Conn, as far east as Long Island, NY and as far south as the Philly suburbs – these 12 gentlemen came to ride and enjoy the roads, and that we did.

This was our first true ride this year since our April ride was rained out (our normal lately it seems). I was also ill prepared since I didn’t get a chance to recon the route – and was also trying out a new app (which was a FAIL for me). We had our set of challenges starting off – but luckily Matko had a copy of his Garmin maps/route with him, which kept us on the straight and narrow. We ran around in circles a little initially, but we regrouped and finally got it together. I must say, Matko and his new Ducati were the star of the show this day, blazing the path in the F1 group. I had to break a sweat to keep up with him. I’m thinking it’s time to pass the lead position over to him – Well Done Sir!

For all that know, this ride usually loses attendance in leu of the famous SDTC Cheese Steak Run Ride that brings crews from all around the tri-state area to converge on Philly for the day. Alan Lane (Aka Black Moses) from SportBikeInc.com Magazine does a wonderful job in organizing those large rides, sometimes in upwards of nearly 1,000 riders. We applaud Alan for his rides and organization – but our rides are only and always about hitting the back roads and enjoying the twisties at “pace”. That’s what we do – so we give thanks to our 12 gentlemen that chose to enjoy a day of riding with us. As always, the company was outstanding! I’m also happy to report – no incidents or downed riders!

Berks County Blitz II - December 2, 2017

december intro 1

The December ride is usually a tough sell; beyond the usual work, family, and equipment issues that can sideline riders, there are many who are not able to endure the typical December temperatures. But, for those willing and able to brave the cold start, there is a fun route in the offing!

And so it began for the 2017 edition. The temps were below freezing, everywhere in the area, for the ride to meet up at the Starlite Diner. But, the forecasts held the promise of a sunny day in the mid- to upper-40’s by mid-morning. A couple riders planned to drive by and join us for breakfast, while another unlucky rider lost his cold weather gloves on the way and had to abandon his plan to ride with the group. So, we gathered and we ate while waiting for things to get above freezing. Ultimately, four of us suited up and a little before 11AM, we headed out for the most back-road route of the year (again).

And, it was worth the wait! This is not the time of year for edging out one’s Chicken Strips, but the route is technical, fun, and scenic, nonetheless. As mentioned in August, this route passes through a lot of farmland, which is all harvested and cleared off by this time of year. So, in contrast to the lush green canyons of summer, this ride offers long, clear sightlines through the scenery (as you can see in some of the pictures). At one point, instead of following a pick-up truck towing an old Mustang on a trailer, Rusty decided to improvise in order to find some “new” scenery.

Pounding the Poconos Ride - November 4, 2017

intro 1It’s always a blessing to enjoy our CSBA Friends and Family; and today was another eventful day in the life of the CSBA adventures - join us for another action packed episode – read on….

Brrr – The day started quite cool. When I pushed out, I was riding in 40º temps, but the day was calling and forecasting for mid 50s, so I was ready to enjoy the roads. With fresh rubber and certified (LS) approved chain, I was ready to get some twisties in. I arrived on-site just before 9am, only to find our crew had just gone in to start their meal. So much for an early start.

To my surprise we had a cameo appearance by one of our CSBA members (Larry S) who is recovering for a duel he had with a cager. Thank God he arose victorious in the end (still with us) but not without some bumps and bruises. We won’t call him T-Rex (inside joke) just yet, but he’s working hard to be back to 100%. It was great to have him with us for breakfast. During breakfast we learned that Pink Barbie (Ana) was having battery issues and was planning to sit this one out. The team wasn’t having our star not in the ranks so Mike G and KC to the rescue – they ran over to her house and got her going so she could make the ride – way to go team! We delayed our leaving time to accommodate, but no one had a problem if it meant the sun would rise higher and shed some heat on the day. We had one new rider with us, so to save time I went over the rules of the ride and road with him so when Barbie and our two heroes returned, we could leave immediately.

Shamokin Screamer Reloaded II - October 7, 2017

intro 1It’s always a blessing to enjoy our CSBA Family – and for that fellowship I am most grateful….

Finally – we actually pulled off a scheduled ride this year – and it was so worth the wait! People were itching for a good ride (22 in attendance) on what would be the perfect day for a ride – beautiful weather, beautiful scenery and beautiful people. The only thing that wasn’t perfect (if you were in the slower ranks) was the traffic (more on that later in this report).

For the first time in a long time, we had a lot of experienced riders in the ranks – people came ready to get it in – which is always a good thing. Our man Ron W. was so serious that he brought his bike in a trailer – he was determined not to miss the day. (so awesome to have him with us – see picture)
