April "Southern Pennsylvania Screamer" Kicks Off 2012 Season!

A picture of the bikes at lunch

This past Saturday, the 7th of April, we kicked off our first breakfast and ride of 2012. This ride took us on a tour of south central Pennsylvania and traversed several counties. We had riders show up from Lancaster, Hamburg, Philadelphia, Allentown, Bethlehem, Scranton, Reading, and points in between. All in all we had around 25 riders join us, with about 28 or so attending breakfast.

The ride went well and despite a chilly start in the morning the weather turned out to be perfect. The ride ended up being 300+ miles long for just about everyone who attended. We began in Allentown, stopped for lunch in Mt. Gretna in which we shared some fellowship and caught up with everyone. After lunch we continued on, through some farmland and winded our way through the mountains to reach our final stop in Spring Run, PA. We saw lots of wildlife, including a camel, had a member of our group jump start a Harley, and got to ride some of the twistiest roads Pennsylvania has to offer. It was great seeing old faces, as well as some new ones! What a way to kick off the season!

2012 Looks to be a Promising Year!

Motorcycles at the gas station stop

The Pennsylvania Chapter of the Christian Sport Bike Association has big things planned for 2012, but first, lets take a brief look back at the 2011 riding season.

For the second year in a row we were dealt with another harsh winter with record snowfall and cold. It was a relief when March rolled around and the weather improved. It was also a sign that riding season was just days from beginning. As the remaining snow melted, the sound of motorcycles began filling the air and the environment surrounding us started to come to life with color. Indeed the time was finally here and the CSBA Pennsylvania chapter held their first breakfast and ride of the 2011 season on April 2, which ironically was a cool day compared to the weeks prior. The ride was nearly cancelled, not due to the cold, but rather the threat of rain. This threat would loom over us for the rest of the season.

For the first time since we had been gathering for our monthly rides, we had to cancel or shorten several rides due to the rain. It is normal for it to happen once, maybe twice a year, but this year it happened in excess of three times. Given the planning and logistics involved in producing the rides, it was quite frustrating to be dealt these repeated disruptions. Despite that we still were able to encourage fellowship within the organization, assist folk during some of life's struggles, and follow the example of Jesus. All in all it was a great season and we met a lot of new and returning friends!
